How to find a private therapist in the UK

Background
It’s not always clear how to find a therapist in the United Kingdom.
Instructions
- Go through directories online, BACP.co.uk for example.
- Tick the boxes in the filters for the specific issues I wanted help with.
- Read through their profiles and looked up terms you don’t know.
- Filter out the ones that aren’t affordable or otherwise don’t look like a match.
- Contact one or two and scheduled a phone call with them for a free chat.
- Attened your first session and see how things go from there. Pay attention to how comfortable you feel and if they’re a good fit. You’re not obligated to stay with them. You need to feel safe and at ease with your therapist.
These posts and spreadsheets are free to use, tweak, and make your own. I built them to organize my own chaos and figured they might help someone else too.
If you find value in them and want to support the time I spend creating and updating these resources, feel free to buy me a tea. It helps fuel the next round of nerdery.
